Our newest addition

Hey Emma,

Welcome to the team! We’re stoked to have you involved! We’d love to get to know you on a bit more of a personal level (in a non-creepy way), so we thought we’d shoot you some love and ask you the tough questions about life!

Here goes…

What did your last 24 hours consist of?

Binge watching Homeland on Netflix, catching up on the latest episodes of Designated Survivor and Class, and late night shopping for a dress to wear to my university graduation ceremony!

If you had to write a brief character description about yourself, what would you say?

Slightly above average height. Medium brown hair. Green-ish eyes. Super sarcastic. Ravenclaw. Great appreciation for reading and watching TV.

Do you have guilty pleasure music that you listen to, but no one knows about? If so, who and what?

I’m not a big music person, so I don’t have any secret playlists! I do enjoy listening to songs from Disney movies (‘I’ll Make a Man Out of You’ from Mulan is 100% my favourite!) and when I’m trying to be productive, I put on the soundtracks from some of my favourite movies and TV shows (Harry Potter, Doctor Who and Game of Thrones to name a few).

Best hang-over meal?

Anything with potatoes: hash browns, fries, gems, wedges. Seriously, if I could live on potatoes only, I would.

Worst date?

Honestly, I’ve been dating the same guy since high school, and none of our dates have been awkward or terrible, even the early ones!

Most awkward moment?

When I first bought a gym membership, I was suffering from brain fog and made a series of embarrassing decisions. The terrible situation ended with the receptionist telling me he didn’t have 10 cents change for me, and instead of giving him the correct change, I insisted on giving him an extra 10 cent coin! I didn’t realise my mistake until I got back in my car, but he every time I walk into the gym I can tell he remembers!

Besides editing our articles, what do you find yourself doing in your spare time?

I love to read, and I try to read about one book every week. I’m also a HUGE netball fan, so during the netball season I spend almost all my time coaching a team, training and playing in my own team or watching the Suncorp Super Netball on TV.

What point in your life did you decide to follow your dream as an editor?

Reading and writing has always been a huge passion of mine, so I always knew the writing industry was where I was going to end up. When I first started studying creative writing at uni, I realised I enjoyed working with my peers on their stories more than working on my own. That’s probably when I realised I wanted to go down the editing path.

What interested you in editing Blaire’s content?

Blaire’s articles have such a unique voice and tone. The content is always genuine and the writers aren’t afraid to tell it like it is, which is something I appreciate.

What grammatical errors do you see all the time that make you cringe?

When people misuse apostrophes, especially when writing dialogue.

‘Their was lots of naked bums over they’re.’ Did that just annoy you?

No. Just, no.

What are you passionate about?

I’m incredibly passionate about reading. The books I’ve read have shaped me into the person I am and expanded my world view immensely. I like to push my favourite books on my friends and family, and I’m 100% not ashamed to admit it!

If you had the ability to change someone’s view on this world, who’s would it be and why?

Anyone who victim-blames women who were raped, because they couldn’t be more wrong.

Are you a magazine or novel kind of girl?

I’m a novel gal, for sure!

What are you currently reading?

Earlier today I started Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy.

Where can you see yourself progressing within the next few years?

Hopefully, I’ll have finished the editing and rewriting process of my first novel, graduated with a Master’s degree in Editing and Publishing, and I’ll be working on expanding my career as a freelance writer and editor!

Cheers legend

xx
